Upcoming City Council Meeting: May 5, 2025

May 02, 2025

The next City Council meeting is Monday, May 5, at 7:00 PM. We’re sharing a preview of the meeting, but you can view the full agenda and packet at berkleymi.gov/councilagendasminutes.

The evening will begin with a Work Session meeting at 6 PM in the second-floor conference room of the Public Safety building for staff and Council to attend a Michigan Municipal League Thriving Communities Workshop. Work Sessions are informal, discussion-focused meetings. While work sessions don't include votes and are not recorded or broadcast, they're open to all community members who'd like to observe these valuable planning conversations.

The regular meeting will start at 7 PM in Council Chambers, and will be streamed live on our YouTube channel and on WBRK. This meeting includes a matter of approving the MidWest Corporate Athletic Association’s “Corporate Cup Relays” event to take place at Anderson Middle School and a matter of approving the first reading of an ordinance to consider adding Article III, Workforce PILOT Housing, to our Code of Ordinances. Council will also receive budget amendments and the budget-to-actual report for the quarter that ended on March 31, 2025.

PILOT Workforce Housing is a program designed to increase housing options for households earning between 80% and 120% of the median area income. Under this program, developers who plan to construct housing that fits this criteria pay a percentage of rental income (between 1% and 10%) instead of standard property taxes for 15 years, with optional extensions. Council is considering adding this option to our Code of Ordinances because our Master Plan identified diversifying housing choices to accommodate various populations, ages, and incomes as a goal.
