Ethics Review

City Council received a complaint from a resident concerning the perception of an improper disclosure of a conflict of interest during the contract solicitation and engagement of the City’s current City Attorney. When it was first received, City Manager VanVleck reviewed the complaint and determined that there was not an ethics violation. After she shared her findings with the resident who submitted the complaint, the resident then requested a formal review and the advisory opinion in accordance with Section 2-40(f) of the City Code.

Typically, the City Manager would consult with the City Attorney before providing the advisory opinion in accordance with Section 2-40(f). Since this complaint involved the City Attorney, City Manager VanVleck recommended an independent, outside legal review in the interest of public trust. Council approved a retainer agreement with Greco Law LLC to perform the review, and an update will be shared with our community at a future Council meeting.

Updated Letter of Engagement with Labor Attorney

Shifman Fournier has provided City administrative staff with trusted, reliable, and highly competent support on all labor-related matters, helping us to navigate complex labor issues efficiently and effectively. They have increased their hourly rate by $20, and Council approved a revised letter of engagement with the firm that reflects the increase. A budget amendment will not be necessary to cover this increase.
