Building a Better Berkley

Infrastructure Projects

We want residents to stay informed about the proposed and current infrastructure projects happening in the City of Berkley. This page provides updates and other information residents need to know regarding large-scale projects that involve Berkley streets, roadways, and the water and sewer system. This below above outlines the Capital Improvement Project Millage approved by the voters in November 2018.

Berkley Annual

Sewer Lining Program

Each year, the City has been lining the sewer system to maintain its structural integrity and extend the service life of the pipe network.

In January 2019, City Council awarded a five-year bid contract to Granite/Inliner to perform this work.

Project Scope and Overview

Pipe candidates for lining are determined each year based on rating criteria from the regular sewer inspections.

Inliner will be notifying impacted residents via hand-delivered notices with contact information for the project.

Berkley City-wide

Sidewalk Replacement Program

The City of Berkley is continuing its multi-year, City-wide Sidewalk Replacement Program and Phase 4 will include the Southeast section of the City. This program will be taking a new approach where it will run in five-year cycles rather than carrying out replacements every 15 years. The shorter cycle between replacements is to ensure sidewalks no longer reach a point where they are unsafe for use.

Scope of the Program is as follows:

  • Replacement of sidewalk slabs (whether they are the result of tree root disturbance or not) within the Southeast section of the City. This section is bordered by Woodward Avenue, Eleven Mile Road, Catalpa Road, and Coolidge Highway.
  • Replacement of concrete slabs determined to be “immediate” (2 inches or more in vertical displacement/faulting).

Project Start: Summer/Fall of 2023

Project Completion: November 2023

Wiltshire Road

Water Main & Pavement Replacement Project

Project Scope and Overview

The scope of proposed improvements includes the removal and replacement of the existing asphalt road surface, new concrete curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and a new 8-inch public water main. Minimal trees may also be impacted by the project and the City will work with the affected property owners on a replacement plan. In addition, minor stormwater drainage improvements are being evaluated.

Project Start: June 12, 2023

Project Completion: December 2023
