Recycling

The City of Berkley recently underwent changes to its traditional recycling program due to process changes at SOCRRA.

SOCRRA has transitioned from the current dual-stream recycling to mixed recycling. With mixed recycling, Berkley residents can place all recyclables in a single container instead of separating materials by type.  This process is easier and, at the same time, increases the number of recycled materials.  For more details from SOCRRA on this transition, including FAQs, and what can/cannot be placed in the new bins, click here.

Please note: All household batteries (alkaline, rechargeable, etc.) MUST BE taken to SOCRRA (995 Coolidge in Royal Oak) for proper disposal. Please make sure ends are taped.

Trash & Recycling Reminders to Protect Sanitation Workers

Sanitation workers throughout Southeast Michigan continue to provide waste and recycling services. Keep them safe by following these tips:

  • Bag and securely tie all trash, including latex gloves and sanitizing wipes (never flush them!).

  • Empty all food and liquids from containers before recycling.

  • Keep recyclables loose when placing them in carts or bins.

  • Disinfect handles and lids on recycling and trash containers before and after collection.

Thank you for your help in supporting and protecting residents and public servants.
